Promat boards can be installed either directly to the concrete surface or mounted on a sub-frame or even on a suspended ceiling.

If directly attached to the concrete surface Promat offers following options:
• Lost formwork system

This system is mainly applied in new build immersed and cut&cover tunnels.
This is the easiest and most economical way of applying a fire protective layer to a concrete tunnel with a rectangular cross section.
Basically this system consists of the following installation steps:

1. The PROMATECT® boards are laid on the load-bearing formwork,
just buttjointing one board next to the other

2. The first layer of reinforcement is installed

3. Stainless steel screws are partly inserted in the PROMATECT® boards

4. The concrete is poured

5. After the concrete is sufficiently cured the formwork will be extracted

Detailed information about the lost formwork system can be found in the report on The Palm Jumeirah tunnel in which Promat boards have been installed.

This report can be downloaded here.

• Post fixed with anchors

In existing tunnels, or new build tunnels in which it was decided to install the fire
protective layer afterwards, the post fixing system can be applied.
The boards are anchored to the concrete substrate in the thickness required to satisfy the fire protection requirements. The joints between the boards are just buttjointed without the use of any mastic, joint filler whatsoever.

In case of a circular lining, PROMATECT® -T boards can be used. PROMATECT® - T can be flexed into the radius of the tunnel, without the use of excessive force. The flexibility is such that it can cope with regular tunnel radiuses, depending on the thickness of the board. Consult Promat technical department for further details.
